The Best Gifts have local roots and help others!
Birmingham native and company founder, Ann Piper, traveled to Haiti shortly after the devastating earthquake in 2010.

Theona, a seamstress, worked in Port au Prince, and fled to Terrier Rouge, a small rural town outside of Cap Haitian following the disaster.  She decided to teach other young women how to sew and to learn a trade.  Ann met Madame Theona and knew that she could offer a larger market for Theona to sell hand sewn items, which would eventually provide more jobs for women and their families.

Now, Theona passionately teaches women in Terrier Rouge, Haiti how to sew beautifully designed, high- quality products.  Using 20 treadle sewing machines, these women work hard to provide for themselves as well as their families.
